چکیده

Adenotonsillitis is one of the commonest health problems encountered in the general population particularly in children. Tonsillectomy is one of the commonest surgical procedures performed by the otolaryngologists all over the world. 1 Good clinical evidence regarding the need for tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy or both is available, which provides guidance to surgeons. Indications for removal of tonsils or adenoids, or both can be absolute or relative, and depend upon the clinical signs and symptoms of the child. Absolute indications for adenotonsillectomy include adenotonsillar hyperplasia with obstructive sleep apnea, failure to thrive, or abnormal dentofacial growth, suspicion of malignant disease, and hemorrhagic tonsillitis (for tonsillectomy). Relative indications for both procedures are adenotonsillar hyperplasia with upper airway obstruction, dysphagia, or speech impairment, and halitosis. Otitis media and recurrent or chronic rhinosinusitis or adenoiditis are relative indications for adenoidectomy only. Recurrent or chronic pharyngotonsillitis, peritonsillar abscess, and streptococcal carriage are relative indications for tonsillectomy only. 2

IgM, IgG, IgA Serum Levels and Lymphocytes Count Before and After Adenotonsillectomy

Background: Tonsils and adenoids are involved in both local immunity and immune surveillance for the development of immune defense mechanisms. A number of investigators have found decreased immunoglobulin levels after adenotonsillectomy while others have failed to find significant changes. The effects of adenotonsillectomy on the cellular immunity of children have not been investigated extensiv...

بررسی وضعیت سیستم ایمنی هومورال و سلولی کودکان قبل و بعد از عمل آدنوتونسیلکتومی

Background and Aim: Adenoids and tonsils are active lymphoid organs and playing an important role against invading antigens of upper aero digestive tract in children. The purpose of this study is observing the changes in cellular and humoral immunity of children six months after adenotonsillectomy. Materials and Methods: The study population consisted of 30 children (aged 4-10 years) with chron...

Short and long term impact of adenotonsillectomy on the immune system.

UNLABELLED Palatine and pharyngeal tonsils are immune reactive lymphoid organs that manifest specific antibodies and B/T-cell activity to respond to a variety of antigens. They perform humoral and cellular immune functions. The possible effects of adenotonsillectomy upon the immune system remain controversial. OBJECTIVE To study the short and long-term impacts of tonsillectomy upon the cellul...

The Effect of Oral Consumption of Guggul (Commiphora Mukul) Resin on Performance and Humoral Immunity Response of Broilers

This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of the oral consumption of guggulplant resin on the performance and humoral immunity response of broiler chicks. For doing this experiment, 320 one-day old chicks of the Cobb 500 strains, in a Completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates were used. Experimental diets include: control diet (without the guggul), control die...

Effects of Olive Leaf on Blood Metabolites and Humoral Immunity Response of Broiler Chickens

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of olive leaf (OL) on immune response and some blood metabolites of broiler chickens. A total of 400 one-day-old broiler chicks (male and female) were randomly assigned to 5 experimental treatments with 4 replicates of 20 birds each. Birds of different treatments were given diets containing 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1% OL powder from 14 to 4...
